Event: 2007 Michigan Brewers Guild Winter Beer Festival

For those of you in the Michigan area, be sure to check out the second annual Winter Beer Festival, brought to you by the Michigan Brewers Guild. Yes, it's outside, but apparently there are heated tents and lots of big beers to keep you warm. The festival is Saturday, February 24 from noon to 5 pm. Check out the bus service from the Corner Brewery and from Arbor Brewery.

(Thanks to Wörtwurst for bringing this event to my attention. And watch Corner Brewery's blog for updates.)

I'd stick more to the line of "watch Corner Brewery's blog for updates" because they are taking people there on a bus and are of course a brewery."

If there wasn't an hour and a half commute I'd be committed to going. But you never know.

Noted and corrected. Sounds worth the drive, although it'll be a hell of a lot longer commute for me!

Are you going?

I think I'd rather go to Jungle Jim's instead of a beerfest. Remembering the lone time I was there has given me the foolish idea of driving the 4 hours back on a beer run. And no...I didn't drive there just for beer the first time!

Hour and a half each way that is.

No, alas, that would be 3 hours each way. Jungle Jim's is only an hour each way--much more manageable. I actually don't get up to Michigan much, although I will be in Ann Arbor this summer for a wedding and possible family vacation (and trip to several breweries).

If you're lucky the wedding is in July(ish) when Ypsilanti (the town just easy of Ann Arbor) hosts the annual Michigan Brewers Guild Summer Beer Festival. I've never been but I think I have no choice but to go this year.

EAST not easy of AnnArbor!

Nope, wedding's in August, I think. Was planning to hit Jolly Pumpkin, then heading west (hitting Bell's) and perhaps spending a week along the lake.

There are a couple breweries in Ann Arbor that are good besides Jolly Pumpkin, though JP is the better and isn't in AA technically, but close enough. The Corner Brewery/Arbor Brewing Co. have two brewpubs and Grizzly Peaks is in AA too.

There is also Dark Horse Brewing Co. in Marshall, which is between AA and Kalamazoo off of I-94.

Mind you I've never been to these places as I'm not a big beer socializer but I've had their beers and all are rather good. Especially Bell's and Dark Horse. Arbor Brewing is good from what I've tasted so far which isn't only two beers.

You might want to go here: http://www.cloverleafwine.com/forums/ and ask some of these guys about other places in the AA area to get good beer on tap. They tend to frequent the brewpubs and bars and have opinions galore. Knowledgable ones at that. They actually know about all aspects of beer unlike my ignorant ass who just drinks it and tells a tale about it.

I can tell you of one good beer store in AA around the time you head up here.

Thanks! This is great info to have. Wish that Dayton had the brewing choices that AA had!
